Overview of the Role

As an International GCSE English as a Second Language (2023 Specification) Examiner, you will be responsible for marking candidates’ responses in line with:

• Pre-defined mark schemes

• Established examination procedures

• Conditions of recognition

Most marking is completed onscreen and remotely from home, offering flexibility and professional development benefits.

Key Responsibilities

• Mark scripts accurately and consistently to maintain national standards

• Submit marking samples to your Team Leader at designated times

• Meet all marking milestones and deadlines

• Complete all required administrative tasks to specification standards

• Maintain strict adherence to exam procedures and confidentiality policies

Required Qualifications & Experience

Essential Criteria

Applicants must:

• Have at least one academic year of teaching experience:

  • Within the last 8 years

  • In the relevant subject and qualification

  • Post teacher qualification

• Hold a recognized teaching qualification

• Possess a degree or equivalent qualification

Desirable Attributes

• Strong ability to work under pressure

• Proven ability to meet strict deadlines

• High level of subject expertise to apply marking schemes accurately

Training & Support

• All new examiners receive full training

• A short refresher training session is provided before marking begins

• Ongoing support from Senior Examiners throughout the marking period

• All training and marking can be completed remotely and in your own time
